About Us

Hi, we are Jim and Monica Barber, owners of the Cutting Edge Kite Shop. We acquired the Ocean Shores store in February, 1995. We added the Westport store in February, 2002. Monica and I have been very active in kiting since 1993, when we started our first sport kite team, Don't Panic!.

We have traveled around the world competing, and sharing our love of kiting ever since. We host 3 sport kite competitions every year, including one major festival with kite fliers from around the USA, and other parts of the world as our special invited guests. The latest team, Cutting Edge are 2 time World Champions for 2005 and 2006. This marked the end of competitive flying for me (Jim), as I reached my goals. Now I train other teams, pairs, and individual fliers of all skill levels, and travel around the country teaching classes and giving seminars.

Our love of kiting and the people in it has grown each year. Kiter's are a great, welcoming, tight knit group world wide that love to share their passion. Kite fliers generally just hope you will come up and ask about the kites, or "just how do you make the kite do that" so they can tell you all about it, then show you and pass their passion of flying on to you.
