Team Cutting Edge Wins the World Championship in Lincoln City, OR in 2005 |

For 2003, we put together Team Cutting Edge. We are composed of Rick Wolcott (left), Jim Barber (center), and Jerry Cannon (right) Rick and Jim are from Team Visual Impact, and have been flying together for many years. When the World Championships in Malaysia did not happen for the second year in a row, Jim took two years off from competitive flying. During this time, Jim and Mike Huff put their heads together and started the North West Sport Kite League.
After 2 years of being the Chief Judge for the NWSKL, Jim decided it was time to start flying team again. He contacted Rick, who kept busy those two years with his son Reid, and their pairs team, Raw Power winning more National Championships. Now they needed a third flyer, so they asked Jerry Cannon, who had been flying pairs with his wife Marcia, on Pairs Team Last Flight Out if he would like to join them, and Jerry agreed. Rick is the teams Choreographer and runs the ballet, Jim helps with parts of the choreography and runs the precision, Jerry is the team mechanic. He sets up the kites, makes all the adjustments and fine tunes them to get them to fly in just the manner that we want them to. For 2005, Team Cutting Edge was offered a sponsorship from Prism, to fly their Quantum Pros. 2005 also found the World Championships happening in our own back yard, in Lincoln City, Oregon. We had a new ballet ready, fine tuned and looking good. We hit Lincoln City with high hopes, lots of practice time behind us, and ready for war. When all the smoke cleared, Team Cutting Edge was atop the podium, in FIRST PLACE!!! For more information about 2005 Lincoln City, go to Team Cutting Edge Sport Kite Team - 2005 , the AKA's home page and The article in the online magazine Kitelife 2006 sees the World Championships back in Berck Sur Mer, France. This time Team Cutting Edge is coming in as favorites. We did a few minor adjustments to our 2005 ballet and precision routines, looking for a few more technical points.
All 4 days of the competition were held in high, to very high winds. Our Vented Quantum Pros were more than up to the task, flying crisp, clean precision maneuvers, and fast, dynamic ballets. Once again, at the awards ceremony, team Cutting Edge was on the podium, and once again, in FIRST PLACE.
